Speed skating is a fun sport that develops strength, endurance, coordination, concentration and cardiovascular capacity. It's an activity for all ages that the whole family can enjoy.
We offer programs at both recreational and competitive levels. Competitive skaters race in meets which are hosted by different clubs within the province. Unlike other ice sports, skaters are grouped according to ability and not age or gender, which positively reinforces each skater's development. It is wonderful to see new friendships blooming among the kids and the parents at these events.
If you would like to give it a try, contact us by emailing our registrar. We offer three free introductory sessions. Please let us know when you plan to attend so that we can get skates ready for you (depending on availability).
The Codiac Cyclones speed skating club has been based at the A. J. LeBlanc Centre in Dieppe since 2001. The club has been in the region for over 30 years.
Fun and competitive, the sport is practiced at the national, provincial and local levels.
The club offers various programs:
- learn to speed skate (speed skates recommended, skate rental service available)
- recreational speed skating
- competitive speed skating
Skating programs are offered to children age four and up, as well adolescents, adults and special olympians.
Our regular season runs from the middle of October to the end of March. Members skate between one and three times a week depending on their level. They also have the opportunity to compete in various meets both inside and outside the province. In addition to the regular season, the club offers a fall program.
Besides skates, very little equipment is required:
All of these items are common to other popular sports and therefore readily available.
A skate rental service makes it easy to come and try speed skating, a sport in which Canada ranked among the world's best at the last winter Olympics.
